The official District and School Grade Report was issued by the NJDOE on January 10, 2017. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:17-46 this must be posted on the appropriate website by January 25, 2017
Each school is required to post the schools grade based on a the NJDOE 's School Self Assessment for Determining Grades.  Louverture's school grade is a 68 out of a possible 78 points. The grade for the East Orange School District is a 70.
Our total score is based on our fullfilment of requirements on the following core elements:
Core Element # 1 : HIB Programs. Approaches or Other Initiatives - 15 out of 15 points
Core Element # 2: Training on BOE-approved HIB policy - 9 out of 9 points
Core Element # 3: Other Staff Instruction and Training Programs -13 out of 15 points
Core Element # 4: Curriculum and Instruction on HIB and Related Information and Skills - 6 out of 6 points
Core Element # 5: HIB Personnel - 9 out of 15 points
Core Element # 6 - School Level HIB Incident Reporting Procedure - 4 out of 6 points
Core Element # 7 - HIB Investigation Procedure - 8 out of 12 points
Core Element # 8 - HIB Reporting - 4 out of 6 points

While completing this self assessment, we learned that our school has demonstrated strength in these areas:
1) Completing HIB investigations in a timely manner in accordance with legal guidelines
2) The School Safety Team meets regularly to assess school climate
3) Recognizing the Week of Respect with a variety of activities/programs provided to students as well as a workshops for parents.

The Self-Assessment helped our school identify areas for improvement in the following areas:
1) Increasing training to teachers as well as parents on topics such as HIB prevention, school climate and conflict resolution.
2) Improving involvement of teachers, s
tudents and parents in implementation and assessment of HIB programs.

For more information about the HIB grading and self assessment, please contact the social worker, Bonnie Triolo at 973-266-5940 x 60106.
